A charitable bequest is one of the simplest and most flexible ways to support HopeHealth. It allows you to retain full control of your assets during your lifetime while creating a meaningful future gift.

A bequest may be right for you if:

  • You want to make a lasting gift to HopeHealth.
  •  value flexibility and the ability to change your plans.
  • You want continued access to your assets during your lifetime.
  • You are concerned about outliving your resources.
  • Large or small, a bequest strengthens our long-term mission.

Why a Will or Trust Matters

If you do not have a will or living trust, state law determines how your estate is distributed—typically to family members—and no provision will be made for charity. Creating a will or trust ensures your wishes are honored. We encourage you to work with an experienced estate planning attorney.

Ways to Structure Your Bequest

You may define your gift in several ways:

  • Specific Amount – e.g., $25,000.
  • Specific Asset – e.g., securities or property.
  • Contingent Gift – Made only if certain conditions occur.
  • Residuary Bequest – A percentage of what remains after other obligations are satisfied.

Residuary gifts are common because they prioritize loved ones first.

How Your Gift May Be Used

You may choose how HopeHealth uses your bequest:

  • Unrestricted – Applied where most needed.
  • Restricted – Designated for a specific purpose (we recommend discussing restrictions in advance).
  • Endowed – Invested to provide lasting support.
  • Honorary – Made in memory or honor of someone special.

Important Details

To ensure your wishes are carried out properly, please include:

Legal name: HopeHealth Hospice & Palliative Care
Address: 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904
Tax ID: 51-0192422

We are happy to provide sample bequest language for you and your attorney.

Tax Considerations

Because a bequest is revocable, there is no income tax deduction when you create it. However, your estate receives a charitable estate tax deduction for the full value of the gift.

Simple Alternatives

In addition to a will or trust, you may designate HopeHealth as beneficiary of:

  • A life insurance policy
  • An IRA or retirement account
  • Savings bonds
  • A bank account (Payable on Death)
  • A brokerage account (Transfer on Death)

These options are easy to arrange and may offer tax advantages.

Take the Next Step

If you are creating or updating your estate plan, consider including a gift to HopeHealth. A bequest costs nothing today, preserves your financial security, and creates a legacy that reflects your values.

We would be honored to assist you or your advisor with sample language or planning guidance.

Contact us today to discuss how your will or trust can make a lasting impact.
